🗣️ The Bad People Are Not Always Who You Think They Are 🗣️
Meet Poppy, a beautiful little girl that has recently had a tough time. She was living on the street, heavily pregnant. We were asked to take her in as it is rainy season, and she had nowhere safe to have her babies.
Poppy was grateful from the start and it was if she knew once she was with us she was safe. It was as if she had been waiting to give birth, and very soon she delivered three small puppies. Sadly one did not survive, the other two however are thriving.
We had many people apply to adopt Poppy, the choice would be hard, as it appeared that all would offer Poppy a wonderful home.
Where We Went Wrong 😢
When we choose an adopter, we try to make sure the adopter is going to have a good experience, but even more important to us is to make sure we get it right for the dog who is being applied for.
Sadly in Poppy’s case, I got it wrong. I chose somebody that on paper, and talking to her seemed a wonderful choice. The adopter was nearby, which meant that Poppy did not have to travel. The adopter a 65 year old lady, who was already a dog owner, what an amazing opportunity and choice? WRONG!!! We had no idea we were dealing with a human, that had no idea what a rescue dog has been through already, and absolutely no commitment.
Poppy was even able to go for a trial, to ensure everyone was happy. Who couldn’t be happy with Poppy, she is perfect. Poppy only left us 12 days ago.
Last night at 10pm Lisa sent me a post of a little dog that somebody had found running around town. She was sure it was Poppy.
I reached out to the adopter, I knew it was late, but certain she would want to know where Poppy was if she was missing. No answer, so I messaged, I received an answer from the adopter saying that she had given Poppy away to somebody that wanted her 😢 and she hoped it wasn’t Poppy 🤬
We had 40 minutes to find somebody to go to collect her, before the restaurant shut. A huge thank you to Vince Grywacheski-Zontak and Shimon Zontak for dropping everything to get to her ❤️
Also a big thank you to Luis Ocana for taking care of her until they could get to her ❤️ You restore our faith in humans.
The adopter said she had tried to call and messaged, I cannot tell if there is a missed call, but I know there were no messages.
This was a nightmare for us to think that Poppy who had been so let down before, was being let down yet again.
Please if you are interested in Poppy or any of our dogs, only apply if you are offering and intend to give a forever home.
