How was your Sunday?

So Sunday is normally at least a little restful, Lisa's day off so time to spend a bit of time with family, have a traditional English Sunday Roast - even on the hottest days!!! Not this Sunday.....

So late on Saturday, the call goes out, "No water at the shelter"!! So our superhero maintenance and projects volunteer (Jeff Hallen) says no problem, I will be there. True to his word he went out to the shelter to investigate - the problem remained unresolved!!!

So I agreed to meet Jeff and 9 on Sunday morning, two heads are better than one and we can surely solve this.....NO...on arriving at the shelter we discovered not only is there no water now there is also NO ELECTRICITY!!!

So unable to fix the initial problem (the pumps need power) the day turns into a provisions mission.. Fortunately last year we moved to be closer to the shelter, so 3 round trips to fill 24 garafons of water so the dogs would have drinking water and the staff could at least clean the kennels....crisis averted...well that one...

We feed our dogs a raw food diet (watch for new post about this shortly) and we have been busy changing our suppliers to get the best prices and donations, it is not cheap to feed 300 dogs every day!!! Well, we have a new supplier for chicken, and we have just switched to supplies being collected every other day rather than each day...so we have over 200 Kgs of raw chicken that was meant to be ground and added to the other ingredients today...well no power and our freezers and one fridge simply cannot keep the meat fresh until power is restored....so now the mission is to get ice, lots of ice to pack the raw chicken and keep it fit for food....well, I think the shop assistant thought I was "mad" and had never seen such so many purchases of ice by one person so many times in one day....

So not quite the usual relaxing Sunday - well and truly SULA"ED....

The good news is that the power has now been restored..so tomorrow back to see if we can fix the water.....
